Influence of levallorphan on the analgesic and metabolin effects of morphine
Kim Soung-Sook

Shin Man-Ryun
Abstract
Numerous authors have reported that levallorphan is a potent narcotic antagonist as well as nalorphine.
In order to study the influence of levallorphan on the effects of morphine, analgesic effects were investigated utilizing the hot plate reaction time test in mice, and metabolic effects were investigated measuring the changes of blood sugar content, serum total cholesterol level and serum transaminase activities(S-GOT, S-GPT) in rabbits.
The animals were treated with levallorphan at 10 minutes after morphine injection. The results were obtained as follows;
1. Analgesic effect of morphine was markedly inhibited by levallorphan.
2. The hyperglycemic effect of morphine was significantly inhibited by levallorphan. And the increased serum total cholesterol level induced by morphine tended to be suppressed by levallorphan.
3. Levallorphan increased the serum transaminase activities as well as morphine.
4. The increased serum GPT activity of rabbits induced by morphine tended to be slightly antagonized with levallorphan but serum GOT activity was not antagonized.
